3. Acer Swift 7 – 14″ Full HD Touch, 7th Gen Intel Core i7-7Y75, Protective Sleeve

is a piece of black plastic with fake aluminium blush and red paint in a rectangular

the centre of the lid. The lid has a small cut, so you can see the status
lights even when the laptop is closed, which is a specific feature that steals

cover is the same plastic with ugly red lines. The keyboard is illuminated,

the FX504 is thicker than the competition but in the middle of the package by
weight. The Acer Nitro 5 Spin is a lightweight of 4.9 pounds, and 15 x 10.2 x
0.7 inches, and the HP Pavilion Power 15t weighs 5.6 pounds and 14.9 x 9.9 x 1
inch.
The left side of the laptop houses the power
connector, Ethernet connector, HDMI output, USB 2.0 port, a pair of USB 3.0
ports and a headphone jack, while the right side has only one Kensington lock
slot.
Screen:
Asus cut corners with the 15.6-inch, 1080p
display on the FX504. It is dark, bland and lifeless. I saw a 1080p trailer for
Ant-Man, and the Wasp and the dull colours bored me, like the yellow accents
that barely come off the blue Wasp suit or the sleazy red of the Ant-Man suit.
On the positive side,
the screen was sharp, and I could distinguish each fragment of a broken glass
window. When I played Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, there was a loss of
detail in the dark areas, and Talon’s red outfit was silenced.
Asus definitely cut
corners with the 15.6-inch 1080p screen on the FX504. The FX504 covers only 66
per cent of the sRGB colour gamut, which is well below the average 98 per cent
of entry-level games, as well as the projections of the Acer Nitro 5 Spin (105
per cent) and HP Pavilion Power 15t (68 per cent)
The panel of this Asus averaged only 220 nits

Performance:
Given that the FX504 includes an Intel Core
i5-8300H CPU, 8GB of RAM and 1TB SSHD, I assumed it to be a bit faster. With 20
tabs open in Google Chrome, including streaming 1080p Twitch from Fortnite,
there was more delay than usual when switching between tabs. I also noticed
that the laptop had an unusually long boot time.
In the Geekbench 4 overall performance test,
the FX504 scored 12,038, exceeding the HP Pavilion Power 15t (11,214) but
behind the average input (12,718) and the Acer Nitro 5 Spin (13,477).
The FX504 took 54 seconds to transfer 4.97GB
of files, at a speed of 94.5 MBps. That’s much slower than the average
entry-level games (199.3 MBps) and the Nitro 5 Spin (103 MBps) but even faster
than the Pavilion Power 15t (68.8 MBps).
In our Excel macro test, the FX504 took 1 minute and 13 seconds to match 65,000 names and addresses. That’s a few seconds behind the average (1:10).

One of the strengths that we have seen in the Swift series and that remains in the Acer Swift 5, is the screen, this time mounting a 15.6 inch IPS LCD screen and a resolution of 1920 x 1080p, with technology tactile.
This has thin bezels,
although not the finest we have seen of 5.87 mm, which leave us with a pleasant
aesthetic. Despite these good points, we only know the blink technology.
The Acer Swift 5 with excellent viewing angles, in addition to a brightness of 300 nits that leaves us with the necessary intensity during the day, although as a counterpart if you are going to use it outside you will suffer from reflections.
Despite this,
visibility is pleasant, maintaining a good contrast and a 100% sRGB that leaves
us a sound colour palette to enjoy a good movie or series.
Something we miss is
some kind of protection for the screen, type Corning Gorilla Glass or others,
also, once again the inclination of 180º will not allow us to use the
comfortable way the tablet mode.
If we go to the sound

with the Acer Swift 7, we have not suffered from multiple reboots or
thermartrothling while doing benchmarks, although we have noticed that the heat
is transmitted slightly to the keyboard.

Design
One of the attractions of the ASUS Strix Scar
II is in its modern and striking design. The upper part of the laptop is
metallic and is treated to offer different textures. On this sheet stands out

Except for the top sheet, the rest of the equipment seems to be made of different
types of plastic. We liked the rubber profile that surrounds the frame to avoid
bumps and dirt entering when closed.
As usual, all connections are on the sides of
the equipment. On the left side are most of them. More specifically, there are
3 USB 3.1, one of them is type C. In addition to that we find an Ethernet, an
HDMI 2.0, a mini-DP, an audio jack and the power plug. On the right side, there
is only another USB 3.1 port and an SD card reader.

In the beginning, we have advanced that the Strix
Scar II incorporates a 15.6 ″ screen. This screen has a resolution of 1080p and
mounts an IPS panel. Because of this, we can be sure to obtain a magnificent
colour fidelity in any type of content since ASUS guarantees 100% of the sRGB.
As it is a team focused on games, the panel
has a refresh of 144Hz and a response time of 3ms GTG. Undoubtedly an excellent
screen for any type of situation, but the use of variable refreshment
technologies such as NVIDIA G-Sync is missed. Finally, and although this type
of panels is prevalent, the unit we are analyzing has clearly visible light
leaks with maximum brightness.
Performance
The Strix Scar II mounts the well-known Intel
I7-8750H, which is a processor with 6c / 12H and a base/turbo frequency of 2.2
/ 4.1ghz. The RAM is composed of 16Gb DDR4 at 2666mhz in Single-Channel, which
is undoubtedly more than enough, but it bothers us that it has no Dual-channel
configuration. The system used as central storage is a 512GB NVME SSD
manufactured by Kingston.
To ensure excellent performance and obtain
superior graphic quality, mount an NVIDIA RTX 2070 that makes use of the Turing
architecture. This architecture improves performance when using Ray-Tracing
lighting and is DLSS compatible.
It is not the most powerful hardware that has
passed through our hands, but we have been surprised by its gaming performance.
In part, that performance is due to the cooling system used by ASUS. At maximum
power, the temperatures we obtained during our tests were quite good. That
allowed to squeeze more and longer the adaptive frequencies of the CPU and GPU.
